If you’ve ever been confused by the thousands of different wine bottle labels staring back at you in a supermarket or wine shop, we’re here to help explain it all!
Country and region
Most wine labels will show the produce’s country of origin at the top or bottom of the label. On our Bacchus and Ortega wines, this is displayed as ‘Wine of England’ at the bottom of our labels.
If the country isn’t obvious, this may mean the producer has chosen to display the wine region instead.
Producer’s name
The name of the producer will also be displayed on the front of the label. You can’t miss our name on our labels.
Grape variety
Most labels also clearly display the variety of grape used in production. For example, we show either ‘Ortega’ or ‘Bacchus’ on our labels, as these are the grapes we use.
Vintage or non-vintage
The ‘vintage’ refers to the year the wine was made. We currently have 2018 or 2019 displayed on our bottles as they were made during these years.
If it’s not immediately clear on the front label, take a look on the neck of the bottle or on the reverse side for the wine’s vintage.
Alcohol level
The ABV (Alcohol by Volume) is usually in a finer print at the bottom of the label or on the back.
Sulfites
By law, producers have to tell you if sulfites were used in the production process of the wine. Take a look on the back of the label for this info.
